Thattekkad in Eranakulam District, Kerala was in the news, last month because of a terrible boat accident that killed 18 persons, including 15 schoolchildren.

Famous bird sanctuary named after Dr. Salim Ali is situated in Thattekkad. The scenic stretch that leads from Bhoothathankett reservoir to Thattekkad Bridge and from Thattekkad Bridge to the heart of Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is perfectly green, lined with shrubs and flowers along the shimmering waters of the Periyar.This water bed is upper part of Bhoothathankett reservoir.
