ISRO Bhuvan, India's own 3D Satellite map Service : Vidoes
Peoples in Kerala are familiar with Google earth, wikimapia.org. Almost every home in Kerala, place marks are marked in wikipedia.org. Now the satellite map lovers can enjoy Desi Satellite maps that too in 3D. Bhuvan, Google earth like service launched by ISRO (Indian satellite research organisation) has gone live. Even though Bhuvan is capable of giving better resolution than Wikimapia.org and Google earth,(up to 10 meters zoom capability, compared to google earth's 200 meter capability) presently Bhuvan is not clear at high zoom levels. Probably due to security reasons, ISRO have not presently enabled higher zoom levels. But even though certain limitations like running only in internet explorer currently ( it is not digestible to me like die hard firefox fans, ISRO should have considered firefox as the first choice, may be bhuvan plugin developed is an activex and won't run in firefox. )
But precisely saying, even though higher zoom levels were not currently available, Bhuvan is impressive in giving administrative details (like state, district, panchayath, population info), resource datas like water reservoir, roads, rivers etc.) and other statistical datas like soil erosion, weather data etc.
Bhuvan is now limited to registered users. Registering is possible at here
