ISRO to take 2 Indians on moon ride - Proud to be Indian
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has decided to take two Indians to the moon onboard their next manned mission. The space agency, which first found traces of water on the earth's natural satellite through the first phase of its ambitious Chandrayaan-series mission, has thrown open its doors for applications from candidates willing to hitch a ride to the moon on board Chandrayaan-II.




ISRO eyes world record with rocket launch
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), set up 35 years ago, may be a baby among the world's space faring nations. But, it is competing with the other biggies to set world records. And the mission, which is going to give ISRO an edge over other competitors, is the launch of India's latest Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).




ISRO launches 7 satellites in 20 minutes
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched its 16th remote-sensing satellite Oceansat-2 and six nano European satellites in 1200 seconds with the help of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV- C-14) from Sriharikota on Wednesday.

ISRO launches spy satellite RISAT-2
ISRO has launched its first all-weather spy satellite, the Radar Imaging Satellite (RISAT), from Sriharikota today morning. Reports said that the satellite has been placed successfully in the orbit.




NASA thanks ISRO, says water found on moon
WASHINGTON: NASA revealed that India's maiden lunar mission Chandrayaan-I had traced water molecules on the moon's surface. It also "thanked" ISRO for making the discovery possible. We want to thank ISRO for making the discovery possible. Moon till now was thought to be a very dry surface with lot of rocks, NASA said in a press conference.

ISRO Bhuvan, India's own 3D Satellite map Service : Vidoes

Peoples in Kerala are familiar with Google earth, wikimapia.org. Almost every home in Kerala, place marks are marked in wikipedia.org. Now the satellite map lovers can enjoy Desi Satellite maps that too in 3D. Bhuvan, Google earth like service launched by ISRO (Indian satellite research organisation) has gone live. Even though Bhuvan is capable of giving better resolution than Wikimapia.org and Google earth,(up to 10 meters zoom capability, compared to google earth's 200 meter capability) presently Bhuvan is not clear at high zoom levels. Probably due to security reasons, ISRO have not presently enabled higher zoom levels. But even though certain limitations like running only in internet explorer currently ( it is not digestible to me like die hard firefox fans, ISRO should have considered firefox as the first choice,may be bhuvan plugin developed is an activex and won't run in firefox. )

But precisely saying, even though higher zoom levels were not currently available, Bhuvan is impressive in giving administrative details (like state, district, panchayath, population info), resource datas like water reservoir, roads, rivers etc.) and other statistical datas like soil erosion, weather data etc.

Bhuvan is now limited to registered users. Registering is possible at here

Bekal Fort is a major tourist attraction in the state. It is situated around 15 km. to south of Kasargod town.Word Bekal is derived from the word Baliakulam, meaning Big Pond. The term Baliakulam got corrupted as Bekulam and later as Bekal,Spreading over 40 acres, Bekkal Fort,is 16 km south on the National Highway, in Kasargod.
