Chandrayaan-1(sanskrit word meaning vehicle to moon ) is India's first mission to the moon conducted by national space agency called Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The mission is unmanned and intends lunar exploration mission with a lunar orbiter and an impactor. The satellite is launched by a modified version of the PSLV XL. Launched on 22 October 2008 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh at 06:23 IST (00:52 UTC). The vehicle was successfully inserted into lunar orbit on 8th November 2008 by ISRO creating joyful moments for Indians.
India already has very nice remote sensing satellites and this mission involves a remote sensing satellite weighing 1,380 kilograms (3,042 lb) at launch and 675 kilograms (1,488 lb) at lunar orbit. The satellite carries high resolution visible, near infrared, soft and hard X-ray frequency remote sensing cameras and equipments. Over a two-year expected life span, Chandrayan has to survey the lunar surface and produce a complete map of its chemical characteristics and 3-dimensional topography. The mission gives special interest to polar regions as they might contain ice. Also included in the mission, are the five ISRO payloads and six payloads from other international space agencies including NASA, ESA, and the Bulgarian Aerospace Agency, which are being carried free of cost.
The estimated cost for the project is Rs. 3.86 billion (US$ 80 million).

Chandrayaan-1 launched
Indias first unmanned flight to the moon blasted off from Sriharikota, off the Andhra Pradesh coast, early morning on Wednesday.
Chandrayaan will orbit the moon for two years. A principal objective of Chandrayaan is to look for Helium 3, an isotope which is very rare on earth but is sought to power nuclear fusion and could be a valuable source of energy in the future, some scientists believe.

The Chandrayaan-1, a cuboid spacecraft built by the Indian Space Research Organisation, blasted off from a southern Indian space centre shortly after dawn on Wednesday.
Madhavan Nair, Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation, the man behind the moon mission ? said that the rocket had a perfect launch.
Barring any technical failure, the spacecraft will reach the lunar orbit and spend two years scanning the moon for any evidence of water and precious metals.

Kathakali (Malayalam: ????? , pronounced [kat???ka?i]) is a form of highly stylised classical Indian dance-drama that is noted for its attractive make-up of characters, their elaborate costumes, detailed hand gestures and well-defined body movements presented in tune with the anchor playback music and complementary percussion. It originated in the country's southern state of Kerala during the 16th century AD, approximately between 1555 and 1605, and has been updated over the years with improved looks, refined gestures and added themes besides more ornate singing and precise drumming.
Kathakali is considered to be a combination of five elements of fine art:
* Expressions (Natyam, the component with emphasis on facial expressions)
* Dance (Nritham, the component of dance with emphasis on rhythm and movement of hands, legs and body)
* Enactment (Nrithyam, the element of drama with emphasis on "mudras", which are hand gestures)
* Song/vocal accompaniment (Geetha)
* Instrument accompaniment (Vadyam)
Even though the lyrics/literature would qualify as another independent element called Sahithyam, it is considered as a component of Geetha or music, as it plays only a supplementary role to Nritham, Nrithyam and Natyam.
Performance
Traditionally, a Kathakali performance is usually conducted at night and ends in early morning. Nowadays it isn't difficult to see performances as short as three hours or even lesser. Kathakali is usually performed in front of the huge Kalivilakku (kali meaning dance; vilakku meaning lamp) with its thick wick sunk till the neck in coconut oil. Traditionally, this lamp used to provide sole light when the plays used to be performed inside temples, palaces or abodes houses of nobles and aristocrats. Enactment of a play by actors takes place to the accompaniment of music (geetha) and instruments (vadya). The percussion instruments used are chenda, maddalam and, at times, edakka. In addition, the singers (the lead singer is called “ponnani” and his follower is called “singidi”) use "chengila" (gong made of bell metal, which can be struck with a wooden stick) and "ilathaalam" (a pair of cymbals). The lead singer in some sense uses the Chengala to conduct the Vadyam and Geetha components, just as a conductor uses his wand in western classical music. A distinguishing characteristic of this art form is that the actors never speak but use hand gestures, expressions and rhythmic dancing instead of dialogue (but for a couple of rare characters).
Kathakali Styles
Known as Sampradäya?(Malayalam:??????????); these are leading Kathakali styles that differ from each other in subtleties like choreographic profile, position of hand gestures and stress on dance than drama and vice versa. Some of the major original styles included:
1. Vettathu Sampradayam
2. Kalladikkodan Sampradyam
3. Kaplingadu Sampradayam
Of late, these have narrowed down to the northern (Kalluvazhi) and southern (Thekkan) styles. It is the highly stylised Kalluvazhi tradition (largely developed by the legendary Pattikkamthodi Ravunni Menon - 1881-1949) that is implemented in Kerala Kalamandalam (though it has also a department that teaches the southern style), Sadanam, RLV and Kottakkal. Margi has its training largely based on the Thekkan style, known for its stress on drama and part-realistic techniques. Kalanilayam, effectively, churns out students with a mix of both styles.

Google Earth images started to get on browsers
Google Earth images are now available in browsers. For which a browser plug in has to be installed in browser. I installed the plugin and several times tried to load some sample pages. But page failed to load showing some error, may be some bug in the plugin software which has some incompatibility with my browser configuration I think. Anyway it is a great development, from 2D satellite maps to 3D aerial maps. Already the Google street view (which shows 360 degree perspective of streets) is available in many US cities and you can see many of them including street view of place where world trade center situated, in this blog. Technology is doing wonders.

The recent news is that a telefilm shooting is going on about ISRO spying alleged Fousiya Hassan.
It is our Keralite's culture to go after small unnecessary things ignoring key facts and wasting time and energy. Our politicians are well aware of that and they exploits that to their advantage in many cases. They are surviving not because the quality of their rule, but because of thier such exploitation powers.
There is no doubt that ISRO has brought India fame and prestige through their hardwork and dedication, leave all other fuzz to its own grave. Viva ISRO, India.

Bangalore is growing fastly and thousands of buildings and flats are coming up every year. Still inadequate facility in many localities. Travelling is going to be improved once the flyovers under construction at major roads of city are completed.(Most of the images were taken from whitefield)

Varkala beach Images
Varkala is a town in the Indian state of Kerala, about 40km north of Trivandrum and is home of the popular Papanasam Beach. Also, the Samadhi of Kerala's saint Sree Narayana Guru is situated in this town and hence has become a place of pilgrimage.
Varkala is the one of few places in Kerala where one can find cliffs adjacent to the Arabian sea. These tertiary sedimentary formation cliffs are a unique geological feature in the otherwise flat Kerala coast, and is known among geologists as Varkala Formation and a geological monument as declared by the Geological survey of India. There are numerous water spouts and spas on the sides of these cliffs.
A famous beach resort, Varkala is also famous for its 3,500 year old Janardanaswamy temple, which is an important Vaishnavaite shrine in India and is referred to as Dakshin Kashi (Benares of the south). The temple is located close to the Papanasam beach, which is considered to have holy waters which wash away sins, and is also an important Ayurveda treatment centre. The temple has an ancient bell removed from a shipwreck, donated by the captain of the Dutch vessel which sank near Varkala without causing any casualties.
Another major landmark in Varkala is the Sivagiri Mutt, established by the great social reformer Sree Narayana Guru. The hill-top mausoleum of Sree Narayana Guru is one of the most famous monuments in Kerala. The adjacent hills house the East-West University of Brahmavidya and Sree Narayana Gurukulam.
How to reach Varkala
By car
* Varkala is linked by state and national highways to all the major cities in Kerala, Tamilnadu and Karnataka.
By plane
* The nearest International Airport is Trivandrum.
By bus
* State Transport Buses are available from Trivandrum.
By train
* Varkala is also connected by Rail Network. If coming from Trivandrum, the better option will be coming by Train. Almost all trains passing by stops at Varkala. From Varkala Railway Station, Taxis and Auto Rickshaws can be hired. Papanasam Beach is around 6km from Varkala Railway Station.( Rs 40/50 by Auto Rickshaw)

The main season starts from Dec 1st- March 31st, with December & early January experiencing the biggest rush.

Finally my experimentation put me in to trouble
Yesterday, I tried to make some changes in the templates, which cost me dearly. The entire template of blog was on error, to correct this , I had to resort to an old template. So most of this blogs characteristic gadgets are unavailable temporarily. Will be coming back more strongly with lot of changes, new ideas.

A nice site to search for Satellite Maps, Blurred satellite maps
Following is a link to a brand new site which allows to search for Satellite Maps a place. You may visit this place in case satellite maps of a place is not available with us. It is not possible for us to provide similar satellite map search facility because of page load time considerations. Probably later we will provide you an alternative.
Zoom-kerala.blogspot.com provides detailed satellite maps of almost all places in Kerala. Most of the other sites providing so called satellite maps of Kerala are not giving exact location specific satellite maps.They may provide you satellite maps in country level or state level zoom. But here you can get satellite maps in street level zoom.
Some times because of technical difficulties even for us, maximum zoom may not be able to provide. This is because google has blurred many places in maps. Exact reason don't know, some times because of security reason, state authorities might have insisted to Google. Some of the places I have noted as blurred are Idukki, Moovattupuzha, Malappuram, Sulthan Bathery etc.In the case of latter partially clear images are available. I assume similar is the case with Google earth too.

Technology Info: Google Street View of Golden Gate Bridge
Dear Readers, Normally in this blog, I used to post subjects related with Kerala only. But I felt as if since I used to post lots of Google maps, I have to give introduction about a new Google map related technology too. It is Google's Street view.Which gives a feeling as if you are walking through these streets. You can see the 360 degree panoramic view from the position you are staying. That means by using mouse or keyboard arrow keys you can see the 360 degree surrounding view from the position of view.

Satellite Maps of Infopark cochin, Smart city Cochin, Kerala, India
Satellite maps of plot selected for so coming Dubai smart city,Cochin, Kerala is posted below. You can see the Cochin info park also in the Satellite map besides to Dubai Internet Smart City plot. Cochin Smart city project, Info Park cochin are located in Kakkanad.Cochin Info park is major destination of most IT companies in Eranakulam now, the addition of Cochin Smart City project to it adds glitter to Kakkanad and Cochin.
I am adding a route map to Smart city/Info park/Kakkanadbelow it, help it will be useful for any visitors to these places.To Reach Infopark Get Buses to Kakkanad or Perumbavoor Bus (via Kakkanad) or Pookkattupadi bus (via Kakkanad) from any of Eranakulam bus stops. For those people who are coming via train can get buses from Eranakulam south railway station too.In an earlier post I have given Satellite map of proper Kakkand, Kakkanad civil station etc.
